those were actually taken by my dad hehe. so anyways, on the last day, edmund and i asked agus a favour to drive us to this secret gem everyone is raving about – revolver coffee house! we talked to the waitress and actually found out that it’s owned by an australian from sydney. almost like the cafe i’m working at currently, just that it’s more towards the melbourne side since our owner is melbournian. so anyways, the good thing about cafes in bali is that they are FREAKING CHEAP. so much cheaper than sg’s. sg is like an avg of 30sgd/pax? over here is merely 10sgd/pax. which is so affordable for quality cafe food. however the downside is that their portion is pretty small ): so… give and take guys!!!

BEST FRIES MAN! it’s so crispy and salty hahahaha i love it.
they don’t have it in their menu though so just let them know that you want a bowl of fries and they’ll charge accordingly for you ;)

necessary provisions

leave a comment »

hey,

so continuing our second part of cafe hopping after having our healthy lunch at living café, we headed to necessary provisions for a good cup of coffee + tea snacks! since it was my first time here, it was nice just getting absorbed into the atmosphere of the place and also just admiring the little trinkets that were behind our table.

DSC01951

we ordered ice latte, flat white and two desserts (sorry i forgot what dessert are those))):) to share.
oh and notice the conical flask on the right? it’s actually sugar syrup for my latte! its unique right? hehehe.

the living café

Part I of our cafe hopping experience

Well this cafe is a unique one because they serve “raw” food as told by Edmund. At first both of us didn’t have any idea what it meant, we thought that “raw” food meant sashimi and salads, mainly food that were not grilled or steamed, anything like that. But instead, it’s actually food that are cooked that’s nothing above 48oC and with ingredients that are not chemically modified.  They do not serve red meat, cow dairy, white sugar, gluten free food, etc. So this was what “raw” food meant! So much better than my lame sashimi/salad theory… I tried their flat white and it was really different when they switch up cow’s milk for hazelnut milk… Hahaha. If anyone is up for a healthy lifestyle/diet, you should give this place a try!

travelogue taiwan day 1/2: shida and ximending

with 2 comments

This is the surroundings of our hostel, which is situated in the neighbourhood area. So this place is really quiet and peaceful, without any crazy crowds like xmd and shilin. I would really recommend you to stay at this hostel because the place is clean, beds are comfortable, the showers are a lil erratic (probably because of the cold weather) but we got the hang of it after awhile, and for people who would like to interact with koreans (in taiwan!), it’s your chance! This is because I heard from a dutch friend I met in the hostel, that someone blogged about it in their kr website, naver.com, Korea’s version of google and which got the hostel really popular among koreans. 80% of the tourist staying are koreans, even the staffs are koreans too! Except for the boss, who’s taiwanese, and good looking (the koreans said it hahaha). I managed to dig the website out, you can take a look here.

Ximending

Somebody Cafe was a meeting point for our friend who arrived a day later than us. It’s situated within the bustling area of xmd which is truly a hiddem gem among the other clothing stores below it. Definitely a place to just hang out and chill. But you have to be reminded that you have to spend a min amount per person to stay in the cafe tho. It’s a little weird because we’re not used to that kinda culture I guess. Like needing to spend a certain amount of money to stay in a cafe. But overall, it was like a mini art gallery where there are lots to see and appreciate the little notes and quotes written by their staff.

While waiting for our friend at the cafe, Jinkee and I went down to walk around the xmd stretch and decided to have some famous taiwanese chicken cutlet at Hot Star. If you all haven’t know, tw’s chicken cutlet is not cut into smaller pieces whereas sg’s staff will help you get it cut. Also in tw, they will leave the bone with the chicken. Guess it brings out the flavour of the chicken? But then I still prefer sg’s shilin XXL Chicken cutlet tho haha.

Shredded chicken mee sua – this is totally worth the try! (eventhough it was said to be overrated) At first I was expecting it to be oyster mee sua, like the one we always eat in shilin (sg store) but for this, it is shredded chicken! For people like me who don’t really like oysters, this is a good alternative for me. Just add some cilantro, chilli and garlic and all the flavours just start bursting in your mouth. It’s super delish! Go try it out when you’re there.
